At Least 16 Dead in Drone Strike on El Obeid, Sudan

June 11, 2026 (El Obeid) – According to local sources and healthcare workers, at least 16 individuals lost their lives and many others were injured on Thursday after unmanned aerial vehicles controlled by the Rapid Support Forces targeted various areas within the city of El Obeid, which serves as the administrative center of North Kordofan province.

The protest represents one of the most severe shelling incidents to affect the key center since the war started, as reported by locals.

According to local reports, Sudan Tribune stated that the armed group carried out drone strikes at dawn on Thursday, hitting several areas within the city.

A healthcare representative from El Obeid Teaching Hospital stated that the hospital has admitted the remains of 16 individuals who died in the attacks.

Witnesses reported that the attack targeted the Al-Matar and Al-Muwazafin neighborhoods, along with regions near the base of the Sudanese Army's 5th Infantry Division.

The attack started approximately at 2:00 a.m., featuring two back-to-back bombings. The initial strike targeted houses in Al-Muwazafin, resulting in multiple civilian deaths and significant building destruction.

A subsequent attack struck the identical spot soon afterward, with locals coming together to save those injured and transport the wounded, greatly increasing the number of casualties, according to reports.

A rise in air strikes occurs as intelligence indicates an extraordinary increase in RSF forces near El Obeid, fueling concerns about an immediate, major land operation aimed at capturing the city.
