Crowds Rally in Seoul for World Cup Celebration

Many participants wore red attire representing the South Korean national football team or shirts from their favorite clubs, like those featuring Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in. While the chant "Oh, South Korea! The Cry of Triumph!" rang out through the plaza, people shouted and joined in singing.

Two college students, Seong Ju-won and Kim Ju-wan, both aged 19, took part in street cheering for the very first time. They mentioned, "We were supposed to have afternoon classes at our university, but we missed them to be here," and continued, "The energy around us is even more intense than we anticipated. We hope to completely experience the World Cup spirit while giving our full support to South Korea's win."

Office employees Park Ji-eun, aged 33, and Chae Seon-ah, 34, used their vacation days to go to Gwanghwamun Square. They shouted "Da~e Han-min-guk!" and applauded, then started dancing when Buzz's song 'Reds, Go Together' was playing. These two have been involved in public cheers since the 2014 Brazil World Cup, and they forecasted a 2-1 win for South Korea with both goals coming from Lee Kang-in. They stated, "Our intention is to keep shouting until we can’t anymore, regardless of winning or losing," and added, "As we even delayed our jobs, we truly wish them to win today."

Other foreign visitors were also seen at Gwanghwamun Square. Marco Manprin, a 39-year-old traveler from Italy accompanied by his wife, mentioned, "Italy didn’t make it to the World Cup, so we didn’t have a team to cheer for, but because we're visiting Korea, we decided to come here to root for the South Korean squad." Manprin expressed admiration for Kim Min-jae, who plays for the Italian club Napoli, and Lee Kang-in from Paris Saint-Germain. He added, "However, my biggest anticipation is watching how 'Sonny' performs for South Korea," noting, "As Korea is considered a formidable side even in Europe, I believe they’ll secure a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic."
