The National Association of Nigerian Students has urged the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to take action in enhancing digital learning resources at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, after worries about the school's Information and Communication Technology equipment have been raised.
A declaration issued by the President of NANS, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, on Thursday called on TETFund to evaluate the organization's information and communication technology facilities and determine regions needing improvement to enhance online education and training.
As per the student population, growing worries raised by learners regarding the handling of online exams highlight the necessity for enhanced digital systems to facilitate tech-enabled education and evaluation.
Babatunde mentioned that an impartial evaluation of the organization's information and communication technology infrastructure could assist in recognizing current shortcomings and establish a foundation for suitable actions.
We urge TETFund to evaluate the information and communication technology resources at Osun State Polytechnic and provide assistance in enhancing digital education equipment as required.
"This is crucial to guarantee that students can benefit from a tech-based educational setting that adheres to established benchmarks," he stated.
NANS highlighted that investing in advanced ICT infrastructure has grown essential because higher education institutions are more frequently using digital tools for instruction, study, and assessments.
The organization argued that improving digital infrastructure could boost educational standards, enrich students' learning process, and lessen issues related to computerized exams.
In addition to TETFund's involvement, NANS urged for an impartial examination of concerns highlighted by students concerning the academic and administrative procedures within the university.
It called upon key parties, such as the National Board for Technical Education, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, and the Osun State Government, to work with the institution's administration and students to address issues and propose long-term remedies.
The organization stated that this involvement could aid in rebuilding trust within the institution and foster a more supportive scholarly atmosphere.
The NANS requested the appropriate authorities to start the evaluation within seven days, stating that this action aimed to protect students' welfare and enhance the standard of higher education.
"We support meaningful interaction and an impartial review to make sure all concerns brought up by students are adequately handled for the benefit of the institution and its academic group," Babatunde said.
The organization's appeal comes after worries raised by certain students regarding elements of the university's educational and managerial processes, such as the handling of online assessments.
It noted that ongoing funding for information and communication technology facilities is still crucial as higher education establishments keep increasing their reliance on digital systems for teaching, assessments, and administrative tasks.
