July 2, Pakistan – Harry Brook stated that it would be a great honor to serve as the leader of England’s Test team should he receive the opportunity, and he feels confident about managing the responsibilities involved in guiding his nation across all three forms of the game. Currently serving as the limited-overs captain for England, Brook acted as deputy under Ben Stokes during the recent 2-1 loss against New Zealand at home. Stokes, who recently declared his retirement from international cricket, is one of several individuals who believe that the 27-year-old holds potential to take charge of the Test squad. “I don’t think anyone can refuse becoming the England Test captain,” Brook mentioned to journalists on Tuesday. “It would truly be an honor and a privilege — the peak of our sport. However, making this choice isn’t something I’m responsible for; rather, it lies with higher authorities. I’d gladly accept the role if ever invited.” He added: “I'm not claiming it will be simple, yet I firmly believe it's achievable (as a player capable of captaining in all three formats). The reality is that because I don’t participate in league matches, there are specific times where I won’t be actively engaged in cricket games. My focus would remain on maintaining physical readiness so that I may compete effectively in all three versions of the game, which has always been my aspiration since childhood. Whether or not I become the Test captain for England, I’ll continue to feel content simply representing the national team.”
