Sylhet, July 2 – A judicial body in Sylhet handed down the death penalty to two young men for committing sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl back in 2012.
The judgment was delivered by Judge Begum Rubaiya Yeasmin from the Sylhet Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal.
The prisoners include Joynal, aged 25, the son of Md Ashik Ali from the Shahbazpur region within Bishwanath upazila, and Nazim Uddin, also 25 years old, the son of Md. Moinuddin from the Kandirgaon area in the same upazila.
Lawyer Nur Ahmed, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) at the Sylhet Women and Children Protection Tribunal, verified the issue.
As per the prosecutor's statement, during the afternoon of November 27, 2012, Joynal tricked the victim into entering a residence as she was heading to her paternal grandparent’s home. Nazim Uddin was already present inside the house, where the assault took place.
After the attack, once Joynal exited the room, the girl was able to call her mother via a cell phone and described what had happened.
Her mother hurried to the location, saved her, and then hospitalized her at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital the next day. She received medical care at the facility for four days.
Subsequently, an incident report was submitted at the Bishwanath Police Station on December 1, 2012.
