An American naval aircrew member has gone missing following a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday, as three additional individuals were rescued from the water.
The MH-60S Sea Hawk was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and crashed into the ocean around 11 a.m. local time, which corresponds to approximately 3:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
Three members of the four-person team have been rescued and are in good health onboard the aircraft carrier.
An urgent recovery operation is being conducted for the fourth individual, involving naval vessels and planes throughout the area. The serviceman remains unnamed.
"US Navy resources in the area are presently looking for additional crew members who are still unaccounted for," stated the 5th Fleet in a post on X.
The Navy stated there was "no sign" that the emergency resulted from an attack. It did not provide reasons for the "emergency water landing" and mentioned that it is being looked into.
The service did not specify if the Sea Hawk was recovered or surrendered to the ocean.
The Sea Hawk serves as a reliable aircraft primarily utilized for searching, transporting personnel, and conducting flight security missions. It operates under Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5, known as the "Nightdippers," based at Naval Air Station Norfolk in Virginia.
The vessel departed Norfolk on March 31 and navigated around the Cape of Good Hope to arrive at the Iranian conflict zone, where it has been active since late April.
The airline is among the two remaining in service during the conflict with Iran.
It is the second U.S. military helicopter to descend into the area within a few weeks .
A U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed into the Gulf of Oman on June 9. A unmanned surface vessel rescued its crew from the sea.
Trump claimed that Iranian forces brought down the aircraft with gunfire.
The sinking of The Sea Hawk occurred while U.S. representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were meeting in Doha seeking a lasting conclusion to the conflict. Iran's main negotiator, Kazem Gharibabadi, arrived along with his delegation.
Vice President JD Vance cautioned Iran regarding the reconstruction of its nuclear initiative during comments addressed to military personnel at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
"If the Iranians wish to restore their nuclear program, the president possesses choices," Vance stated.
An Iranian state TV reported that a foreign cargo vessel ran aground in the Strait of Hormuz following an deviation from a designated maritime corridor authorized by Iran.
The document supported Iran's contested assertion that ships should comply with its directives or face catastrophe.
Approximately 20% of global oil and natural gas production passes through the strait during times of peace.
Since February 28, when the U.S. and Israel launched their conflict, Iran has been using its influence to restrict access to the waterway as a form of pressure.
