Dhaka, July 2 — High-ranking envoys from Iran and Qatar convened in Doha on Wednesday to explore the execution of the newly inked U.S.-Iran peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), concentrating on progressing the accord and tackling obstacles related to its implementation.
As per a declaration issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Issues, Kazem Gharibabadi, along with Qatar's Premier and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, examined methods to accelerate the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding, focusing notably on initiatives designed to conclude the dispute in Lebanon, as well as investigating possibilities to enhance diplomatic collaboration in fields where both nations have shared interests.
The declaration mentioned that high-level representatives from Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan convened for a three-way discussion regarding the execution procedure, even though details about those involved remained undisclosed.
Gharibabadi mentioned that work teams have already been set up to monitor the execution of the memorandum and get ready for the concluding negotiation meetings. Nevertheless, official conversations have not started yet, as debates over the timing and location are still ongoing via intermediaries.
The group of Iranians in Doha comprises officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central Bank, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
On Tuesday, Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that talks held on Wednesday with Qatari representatives would primarily address the liberation of Iran's blocked funds, noting that no encounters with American authorities were planned.
On Tuesday morning, a reliable source revealed to journalists that unofficial discussions between the United States and Iran were taking place in Doha, facilitated by Qatar and Pakistan, with attention given to executing the Memorandum of Understanding, particularly regarding blocked Iranian funds and naval safety in the Strait of Hormuz.
