A man from Australia, who is alleged to have suffocated a Thai teen and then placed her corpse in a suitcase, frequently hosted prostitutes at his apartment, according to reports.
Simon Peter Carman, 45, hailing from Perth In the southern suburbs, he remains in detention facing murder charges following the discovery of the 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla's body inside a black suitcase close to train lines outside Pattaya on Friday, June 26.
Authorities claim the UK-based truck operator put the teenager's corpse inside the suitcase prior to discarding it among tall grass one day previously.
Carman was detained at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport mere moments before attempting to get aboard a Jetstar flight to Perth.
Individuals familiar with Carman stated that he treated Thai prostitutes with respect and would sometimes request them to "tidy up his room."
Other residents of the Rimhad Condominium in Jomtien, where Carman has been living for the past eight months, stated that young women came to his apartment at least once each month.
"She (Tunchanok) was the youngest, yet they were all still young," said one source. Daily Telegraph .
Another addition: "Occasionally, he only requested they tidy his room and give him a massage, paying 2,000 baht (AU$86)."
Last Tuesday evening, relatives and acquaintances of Ms. Donhomla came together for her funeral at an outdoor temple located in Kalasin, approximately 200 kilometers away from her home city of Nong Khai and roughly 700 kilometers from Pattaya.
They organized a memorial service instead as her remains failed to be delivered on schedule due to the continuing homicide inquiry.
She was later cremated and interred by her relatives.
The funeral ceremony of Ms. Donhomla is anticipated to last multiple days, including evening recitations conducted by regional monks.
The teenager's great-aunt Mee Boonsert, who took care of her, remembers their final meeting just before Ms Donhomla went to Pattaya to see her friends.
"Before leaving, she informed me that she was going and would return shortly," she said to ABC.

Another aunt, Mirantee Thanachai, said: "I don't wish for others to have a negative perception of her."
"Regardless of whether she was going for work or just touring, she wasn't aiming to place herself in danger," she stated.
On Wednesday, police stated they were still waiting for the autopsy findings, although the teenager had sustained facial wounds indicative of a severe attack, such as puffiness, bruises, and blood near her lips and nostrils.
Authorities will also examine if there is any link between Ms. Donhomla's passing and two additional killings in February and September of last year, when women's corpses were similarly placed in suitcases.
Law enforcement officials are reviewing Carman's online browsing records to determine whether he knew about the corpses discovered 30 minutes away from his residence.
"We'll attempt to determine if there are connections, but I haven't concluded that the individual responsible for this case must be linked to the earlier ones; that isn't definitely the case," said Police Chief Colonel Anek Srathongyoo from Pattaya.
A teenager provided his friends with Carman's address following their meeting at Jomtien Beach early last Thursday.
Wearing a black tank top, images depict Carman facing off with the woman within the disorganized room, which was filled with scattered garments.
The upper part of the refrigerator had various cleaning supplies and used alcoholic beverage containers scattered around.
Friends in Australia later stated that Carman "lived like a pig."
The mourning companions of Ms. Donhomla are finding it hard to understand the teenager's passing and the reason someone would harm her.
"She is a polite and amiable individual, yet she tends to be shy," said one friend to the Daily Telegraph.
Carman faces charges including homicide, hiding and relocating a corpse, and abducting a person between the ages of 15 and 18 for sexual reasons.
He rejects the accusations and states he was acting in self-defense, claiming that Ms. Donhomla assaulted him with a blade during a dispute about funds.
The date for his initial court hearing remains undecided.
In Thailand, being found guilty of murder may lead to either capital punishment or imprisonment ranging from 15 to 20 years.
Should Carman be found guilty, he is expected to be moved to the high-security Bang Kwang Central Prison, commonly referred to as the "Bangkok Hilton."
The infamous prison is also known among residents as "The Big Tiger" due to its reputation for "devouring people."
