The Nigerian Air Force Has conducted a synchronized air strike in the Lake Chad region, resulting in the deaths of multiple militants during a precise mission near Metele within the northern Tumbun zone.
A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday from the National Aerospace Authority headquarters, shared by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, indicated that the operation took place during the early morning hours of Wednesday after being guided by intelligence-based monitoring.
Authorities stated that the operation was based on reliable information, which led to Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance activities confirming the existence of a high-ranking militant leader, hidden bases, and heightened activity among rebels in the region.
Following this verification, aerial resources were sent out to strike the confirmed objectives accurately. Defense officials stated that the mission was thoroughly planned to achieve maximum effect on established enemy locations.
Speaking about the involvement, the statement mentioned:
When they arrived, the flight crew noticed considerable terrorist activity near the hidden buildings, verifying the existence of enemy forces.
After successfully identifying the targets, the plane carried out destructive attacks on the specified areas.
Post-attack damage evaluation verified the annihilation of the terrorist stronghold and the elimination of numerous militants.
After the mission, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended those who took part and emphasized the Air Force's commitment to continuing the fight against terror groups throughout the nation.
He said: "We will keep using our aerial strength to find, attack, and eliminate terrorist locations regardless of where they are located."
The Chief of Army Staff stated that the Nigerian Air Force is determined to prevent terrorists from operating freely and to ensure they find no secure refuge within our national borders.
