Beirut, June 10, (dpa/GNA) – The United Nations has dispatched a group of specialists to Lebanon to examine potential breaches of international law committed by all involved sides in the ongoing conflict within the nation, stated UN human rights official Volker Türk on Wednesday.
According to a press release from his office, Türk mentioned that an agreement was finalized with the Lebanese authorities to dispatch an unbiased and autonomous investigative team to the nation. The objective is to gather proof regarding claimed breaches of international human rights law and international humanitarian law committed by all involved sides in the conflict.
Following the outbreak of conflict with Iran at the end of February, hostilities have resumed between Israel and the Iranian-supported Hezbollah group in Lebanon.
An agreement for a ceasefire between the Israeli and Lebanese authorities has yet to stop the fighting, since Hezbollah is not involved in the truce.
Ongoing reciprocal cross-border assaults persist, resulting in daily fatalities among individuals in Lebanon.
