Nepal, July 2 — Authorities have blocked 26 mobile applications and almost 250,000 websites associated with unlawful internet gambling activities.
The Department of Communications and Information Technology (DoCIT), via the Nepalese Telecommunication Authority (NTA), initiated measures against unauthorized online gambling sites and applications.
A three-month period ago, the ministry instructed the NTA to direct all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and mobile service operators to prevent access to unlawful online betting and gaming platforms functioning within Nepal. In response to this order, the NTA has now closed over two dozen mobile applications and almost 250,000 wagering websites.
Out of individual internet service providers, Websurfer restricted access to 35,454 unlawful gambling sites, succeeded by DishHome with 25,538, Classitech with 25,516, and Sajilo Net with 24,936.
Out of the mobile network operators, Ncell restricted access to 22,226 gambling-related websites. WorldLink limited 22,063 domains, Nepal Telecom 21,743, TechMinds 21,768, and Subisu 21,705.
In addition, CG Net took down 17,706 gambling sites, Eastlink restricted access to 14,304, Vianet handled 10,446, and Pokhara Net managed 7,334.
