Here is a startling instance where a criminal seized a dog by its head and hurled it six feet beyond a barrier.
James Andrew grabbed the small terrier, which flailed its legs as though in distress, while he seemed to find it amusing—and then tossed it.
However, he was captured on video by neighbors who yelled at him through their windows.
The neighbors contacted the authorities, who subsequently informed the RSPCA, an organization dedicated to animal well-being.
Solicitor Kevin Withey, who acted for the RSPCA during proceedings at Bristol Magistrates' Court, stated: "He [Andrew] looks away, displaying no concern about what might have occurred to the dog due to his actions."
A dog named Boomer was discovered having crust near his eyes, sores on his ears, and he was underweight.
The RSPCA discovered several animals at the residence, resting in boxes without any padding in the kitchen, while the yard was filled with trash and feces.
Mr. Withey remarked, "In the opinion of most individuals, the property is in quite an unpleasant condition."
Andrew eventually admitted that he had treated his partner's dog improperly. He explained that he worked with the military police, where they managed dogs in that manner.
However, Mr. Withey noted that Boomer was a "small terrier" and not a service dog.
The courtroom was told that Boomer was tossed in a 'cruel fashion,' resulting in his suffering and anxiety.
Andrew and his girlfriend Claire Yvonne Malik, 42, both pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty offense on September 5 of last year.
Andrew additionally admitted guilt to another count of the same offense following the act of tossing an animal and failing to prevent it from experiencing pain, distress, or harm.
The couple, who have five children, kept Boomer for three years and claimed it belonged to their daughter and wasn't fond of males.
Boomer, who was separated from his companion and placed in a new home, gained weight from 2 kilograms to 3.5 kilograms within less than a month.
As a mitigating factor, Vanessa Popple described it as an "isolated incident," noting that the couple, without prior criminal records, had subsequently tidied up their home.
She mentioned that the sole instance of "active mistreatment" occurred at the hands of Andrew, and Malik had not witnessed his actions until the footage was shown in court.
She stated, "When Malik viewed the footage, her response was very clear. She was shocked by what she witnessed and did not approve of it."
She mentioned that the relationship has ended, yet the two continue to reside at the same location where they look after three of their young children.
The courtroom was informed that the couple no longer keep pets at their residence.
A pair of individuals, neither of whom is employed and receives support from the state, each received a fine.
Malik was required to settle a sum of £568, whereas Andrew had to pay £680.
The court learned that Malik did not abuse her cat, yet she was barred from owning dogs for five years and is ineligible to request reconsideration for three years.
Andrew faced a ban of ten years from owning any animals and isn't allowed to request an appeal for seven years. He grinned as he exited the courtroom.
