A Wisconsin A teenager who disappeared from her house at age 15 was discovered unharmed after five years.

Joniah Walker, who is currently 19 years old, was found on May 25, according to the Milwaukee Police Department. WISN 12.

Officials remained silent about her location or whether others were with her.

"We do not disclose the location of any missing person. Everyone anticipates privacy, and we honor that," said a police representative to the Daily Mail.

On June 23, 2022, Walker vanished completely from her mother's residence in Milwaukee.

Tanesha Howard's mother stated that she last saw her adolescent daughter resting in her bed upon returning from school, as reported by the The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

"I headed over to give her a hug prior to heading out for work," Howard said to the nonprofit group in June 2024.

Walker had spoken to her mother via telephone multiple times on the day she vanished, yet concern arose when she didn't answer her father's call at approximately 3:30 pm.

Howard mentioned that the teenager was scheduled to meet her father so he could accompany her in obtaining a work permit for a summer position.

"He rang me and mentioned that Joniah wasn't answering her phone," she remembered. "That’s when I instantly realized something was off." She then left work without delay.

Unsettling video captured by a neighbor's Ring doorbell camera depicted Walker exiting the complex at approximately 2:30 pm, carrying a big green hiking backpack.

She was never spotted again afterward.

When her daughter disappeared, Howard mentioned it was highly unusual for her to simply disappear.

The heartbroken mother stated she had always been convinced that 'someone enticed her out of the house' on that day.

"Someone took her…that was my initial thought," Howard explained.

But when I noticed she departed with a large backpack I'd never seen before, that's when I realized. I thought, someone must have enticed her.

Four months ago, Howard shared with Fox6 News Milwaukee that her youngest child had faced challenges at school throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and has a background of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) along with depression.

With that, Howard felt frustrated because her child was never classified as "missing" by the officials.

She also remembered seeing the large backpack arrive in the mailbox prior to Walker's disappearance.

"And I questioned her, 'Why do you need such a large bag?' and she responded, 'Oh, because when we go camping again, I'll have sufficient space in just one bag,'" Howard said to the source.

Her mother also understood that her daughter had tried to remove her online presence prior to disappearing.

"She managed to conceal her information without us noticing it on the phone bill," said Howard.

The disappearance of Walker became part of a political effort initiated by Wisconsin state Representative Shelia Stubbs, who advocated for passing legislation establishing a Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls Task Force (MMAAW), according to prior reports from Fox6.

Some individuals are resisting, doubting their claims, often due to their race," Stubbs remarked. "They aren’t being treated with seriousness.

Back then, Stubbs encouraged Howard to keep hoping her daughter was somewhere else.

"I thought Joniah was still alive, and I told her that — 'I don't think Joniah is gone; it's just a question of when,'" she stated.

Some states, such as Wisconsin, enacted the MMAAW law to create working groups. Other jurisdictions have proposed comparable legislation that remains under consideration.
