Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, who represents the Lagos East Senatorial Area, stated that the recently launched 504-kilowatt-hour integrated microgrid in Epe, along with the upcoming 5MW upgrade, will stimulate business growth, generate employment opportunities, and enhance living standards in the region.
On Tuesday, Abiru stated that the initiative aims to deliver consistent electricity for companies, agricultural processors, fish traders, craftsmen, educational institutions, medical centers, and numerous small and medium-sized enterprises facing insufficient energy access.
The initiative, organized by the senator together with the Rural Electrification Agency, the European Union, and the German government via GIZ, was launched recently in Epe, Lagos State.
Attended at the gathering by a former Chief Whip from the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abdulateef Abiru, the legislator referred to the initiative as an enabler of economic expansion, business advancement, and better quality of life for locals.
He mentioned that the effective implementation of the microgrid came after over four years of continuous effort and cooperation to make sure Epe received advantages from the Connected Microgrid Expansion Program.
As he stated, the initiative extends past merely providing electrical services, marking a major move toward tackling long-standing energy issues in Epe Local Government Area.
"This endeavor was not accidental. It stems from several years of continuous involvement, promotion, and teamwork. Since the program began more than four years back, we stayed dedicated to delivering it successfully because we recognized the powerful effect consistent power will have on our community and regional economy," he stated.
Abiru mentioned that the 504 kWh mini-grid represented the initial stage of a larger project, with the proposed 5 MW upgrade set to greatly enhance power availability to boost expanding business operations throughout the Epe region.
He praised the REA, the European Union, and GIZ for working together to implement the project, calling the partnership an example of sustainable development.
The senator further credited the project's achievement to the initiatives within the power industry under President Bola Tinubu's leadership, noting that the federal government's actions aimed at increasing energy availability and enhancing electrical systems were starting to show outcomes.
"The current situation serves as an example of how national strategies can lead to tangible advantages for everyday people. The changes introduced by President Tinubu are strengthening organizations and opening up chances for neighborhoods to obtain essential facilities that promote financial expansion and progress," he mentioned.
Abiru called on locals to safeguard communal facilities and back initiatives and projects aimed at fostering growth.
"The advancements observed today stem from deliberate leadership, targeted funding, and consistent administration. It is essential that we keep backing leaders and strategies which produce tangible outcomes and open up prospects for our citizens," he said.
