President Lee Jae Myung mentioned on the 2nd about the newly introduced 'Three Major Projects,' which involve an 800 trillion-won investment in the Honam semiconductor industry, saying, "This will serve as the third milestone for South Korea to emerge as a leading industrial power with a significant advantage." He highlighted the efforts of the Park Chung-hee government in advancing heavy and chemical industries, as well as the Kim Dae-jung era's move towards establishing itself as an IT leader.
The president delivered these comments during a high-level cabinet meeting conducted at Cheong Wa Dae in the afternoon of the same day. He stated, "The Three Major Projects are not just benefits for the regions, but the route for the Republic of Korea to emerge as the top achiever in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and a significant choice for coming generations."
Considering earlier presidential terms, President Lee stated, "Throughout pivotal moments in history, prior governments consistently created opportunities for significant progress by embracing fresh challenges." He mentioned the Park Chung-hee and Kim Dae-jung regimes as instances. He further remarked, "This project will go beyond the capital area, which has now hit its capacity constraints, and serve as the engine behind developing multiple economic hubs across the country, turning the whole nation into a South Korean equivalent of Silicon Valley."
He called upon, "Cheong Wa Dae and the government to make revising relevant policies and laws, along with funding distribution, their highest national priority and speed up the project." He added, "Let us combine our efforts on this journey that will carry accountability for the next 30 years of the Republic of Korea and create more prospects for every young person throughout the nation."
At the meeting, President Lee also highlighted the importance of addressing long-standing inequalities and imbalances within society. He said, "Our priority should be to create a just labor system, rejuvenate regional economies, and develop pathways for wealth accumulation for all individuals, particularly young people." He further mentioned, "Especially, I call for comprehensive planning to effectively use expected extra tax income and ensure reliable funding for upcoming generations."
The leader additionally emphasized comprehensive readiness for "severe heavy rainfall" throughout the rainy season.
