Governor Radda Unveils 152 Houses, Allocates N500m Grants for Jibia IDPs

OFFICIALS The governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has launched 152 units under the Mass Housing Program for internally displaced people, Climate Peace Centers, and solar mini grids in the Jibia local government area.

The Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said in a statement that Radda highlighted the housing initiative as a result of collaboration, with the Katsina State Administration partnering with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German Government via GIZ, and the Norwegian Government.

"What once was an idea has now become a real achievement. Remember clearly, we came together in October 2024 to launch these initiatives. This is what hope, collaboration, and determined effort can accomplish," stated the Governor.

He mentioned that the state government supplied land, boundary fences, a place of worship, a school, sewage facilities, entrance roads, and furnishings. The dedication runs even further. The government allocated N500 million in grant assistance to 500 locals from Jibia via the Katsina State Enterprises Development Agency to rejuvenate small enterprises and reinstate sources of income.

The Governor asserted that the Jibia Local Government Area has experienced no intentional attacks or abductions during the last 12 months. Farmers have resumed working in their farms. Markets are starting to open again. Students are returning to classes. The costs of basic food items are decreasing.

"Throughout the state, productivity has increased and optimism is growing where fear previously dominated. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the instability affecting the area becomes part of the past," he said.

The Governor urged communities to protect the delicate harmony. "Peace isn't solely the responsibility of the government. It is created within each home, each marketplace, each mosque and church, each classroom," he stated.

He additionally reached out to militant groups, saying, "A more effective approach exists. The pathways for discussion, remorse, and reconciliation are still available. Put aside your weapons. Return to your families. Rejoin your communities," implored the Governor.

Mrs. Elsie G. Attafuah, the UNDP Nigeria Resident Representative, praised the leadership and dedication of the Katsina State Government. She pointed out the state's financial support as evidence of local involvement.

Current investments mark the beginning, not the conclusion," stated Attafuah. "They are contributing to establishing the circumstances necessary for recovery, strength, and sustained growth.

He pointed out that development is among the methods through which peace is established. These two aspects are closely linked. Spending on housing, means of support, and prospects serves as a foundation for stability.

Additionally, German Ambassador Anneth Gunther commended the Katsina State Government for their significant contribution toward completing the assigned project.

The German envoy also pledged to Katsina State authorities that Germany remains dedicated to enhancing cooperation with UNDP and the local government in seeking ways to broaden programs focused on stabilizing, recovering from conflict, fostering resilience, and preventing future issues throughout Katsina State and the North-West area. This will build upon achievements made through the Prevention Facility and other locally driven efforts for peace and growth.

In his opening speech earlier, Professor Abdulhameed Ahmed Mani, Commissioner for Rural and Social Development, outlined the details of the project. Work started in October 2024 and was finished approximately halfway through 2025. Every one of the 152 homes includes two bedrooms, a restroom, a shower room, and a spacious yard suitable for growing small trees and keeping animals — following traditional customs.

The property features four primary locations for obtaining water, access roads, street lighting, and places of worship. The infrastructure facilitates everyday living and upholds human dignity.

He mentioned that the process of selecting beneficiaries was strict and open, noting that a panel consisting of customary leaders, elders, members of civil society, young people, and government personnel evaluated candidates from each of the twelve areas within the local authority. No prejudice. No special treatment. Only justice.

"Besides providing shelter, the government implemented additional efforts. Two thousand recipients got assistance through agricultural programs and small-scale enterprise funding. The Jibia livestock market was improved. A modern animal health center was built. Personnel responsible for border protection underwent training regarding international trading relationships. Municipal employees were educated on offering psychological support to those affected by raids," mentions the Commissioner.

He revealed that a dedicated committee has been established to manage the property following the appointment. Its responsibility: to maintain the premises appropriately and promote harmony among occupants.

Similarly, the National Security Advisor, through the Director for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism at the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), Ambassador Abimbola Wonosiko, stated that the initiative highlights the strength of collaboration in promoting peace, safety, and long-term development.

Abimbola emphasized that the Center strongly believes lasting peace can't be attained just through security efforts, but also requires investments aimed at improving livelihoods, fostering social unity, building resilience, and providing chances for marginalized groups.

Showing appreciation for the legacy initiative, Hon. Sirajo Ado Jibia, Chairperson of Jibia Local Government, praised the administration led by Governor Radda and UNDP for choosing the government as the recipient of these housing units and additional development programs.

The gathering included Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal, Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura, Chief of Staff Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, public servants, collaborators from both inside and outside Nigeria, as well as various security representatives.
