As the Russia-Ukraine conflict reaches its most severe level in four years, Pakistan has called for both sides to immediately stop fighting entirely, giving diplomatic efforts room to function effectively and bringing an early resolution to the crisis. "Recent escalations and ongoing cycles of attacks and retaliatory actions have only led to increased destruction and hardship throughout the affected region," stated Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, during a meeting of the UN Security Council held on Tuesday—the fifth such session in three weeks concerning events in Ukraine or the consequences of the war. In this connection, he wished that the involved parties quickly restart the U.S.-mediated discussion process and participate genuinely and positively toward achieving this objective. Pakistan, according to Ambassador Jadoon, has consistently supported and promoted using dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict peacefully. Additionally, he mentioned that following the road to peace demands adherence to the principles outlined in the UN Charter and focusing on discovering solutions that satisfy everyone’s reasonable security needs, consistent with applicable multilateral accords. The ambassador also highlighted how this conflict negatively affects ordinary people and their facilities, raising concerns about the IAEA report regarding assaults near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine and the possible risks to its safety. Furthermore, he expressed optimism that the conflicting nations will keep strictly observing the agreed-upon temporary truce in the vicinity of the power station.
"we are profoundly concerned about these events occurring even though the global community has repeatedly urged adherence to international humanitarian law (ihl) and its core principles," ambassador jadoon stated.
The Pakistani representative called on all sides to comply with their duties as outlined by international law, such as International Humanitarian Law, without any exceptions.
