US Forces Strike Tanker Headed to Iran Port

Washington, June 8, (dpa/GNA) – The U.S. armed forces have stated they carried out an attack on a vessel in the Persian Gulf which was en route to an Iranian harbor.

An unloading oil tanker breached the U.S. embargo on Iranian ports, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees the Middle East, who shared this information on the X platform on Monday. "U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) disabled the Palau-registered M/T Marivex as it passed through international waters in the Gulf of Oman heading towards Iran," CENTCOM stated on X.

The vessel's engine room and bridge came under attack following the crew's failure to comply with orders. The ship is said to be incapable of moving. Earlier, the Indian Ministry of Shipping stated that an oil tanker carrying 24 Indian sailors had experienced a fire. It is believed all crew members are secure.

The Strait of Hormuz, crucial for international commerce and now largely closed off by Iran, lies near the location where the vessel was targeted.

The United States established a blockage around Iranian ports within the framework of the ongoing Iran-related tensions. As reported by CENTCOM since the beginning of the hostilities on April 13, seven vessels have become immobile.
